About our people
Our team volunteers hundreds of hours to make Be Benevolent a success. None of our Directors accept remuneration for their efforts, meaning as much of our funds as possible directly benefit the children.
Our teachers in Varanasi are paid fairly, ensuring a reliable teaching presence at our education centre. Our employment of local teachers is also part of our ethos to contribute positively to the Varanasi community.
Ayush has an engineering background and leads business development in an emerging clean-tech startup in Bangalore.
Ayush started working with Be Benevolent to help children who faced similar challenges to himself in his education. He now manages our operations in India and ensures the children have everything they need to thrive.
Founder | Executive Director
Amy was just 22 when she founded Be Benevolent.
Travelling through Varanasi, Amy met children who were unable to access education and saw an opportunity to help. At first Amy supported the children personally. However as friends heard about her experience they wanted to contribute, and so Be Benevolent was created.
Anju has been teaching and managing at our centre since its beginning in 2012. Growing up, Anju's family of 10 lived in a small room. Through hard work and education Anju now lives comfortably, but remembers and understands the difficulties faced by our students. Anju wants to teach the students how to live with integrity, manners and faith in themselves.
Manager, Teacher (India)
Nehar joined Be Benevolent in November 2016 and now teaches Classes 1 and 5 at the education centre. Nehar is in her final year of a Bachelor of Commerce and is a natural teacher.
Yashoda cleans and cooks for the education centre, ensuring our students always feel at home and have the best opportunity to focus on learning.
Support Staff (India)
Education Centre Coordinator (India)
Tinku was raised in a very large family that previously struggled financially. He was needed to work from a young age and knows very well what our students face. That is why he decided to open this Education Centre with Amy.
He brings new students to the centre and ensures it is a fun place to be, always making the children laugh.
